Get Your Kicks On Route 66 Travel

There are many things in this wonderful world that we are free to do. So many sights to see, places go to, people to meet. However, if you have a summer off with nothing much planned, it’s time to start planning your Route 66 adventure…

Where To Start

Don’t throw yourself into it before you know when you will be able to do it. Get some dates sorted out and look into getting your visa or ESTA – visit official esta websites to get some more idea of what you need to do on this matter. Look for flights that will get you into Chicago at a time of day that will be convenient for you to have a bit of rest before you start. You will need to look into hiring a car unless you’re lucky enough to have friends or family members over there already who can lend you theirs (it’s seriously just easier to hire one so you don’t have to drive it all the way back to return it). Make sure that you are fully covered on everything for car insurance and have the right travel and medical insurance to keep you going.

What To See

You should allow yourself enough time on this journey to take in all of the great sites. A few people have done Route 66 in a couple of weeks, but the one thing that they have in common is that they wished that they had allowed themselves more time in order to see what they wanted to. Route 66 runs through eight states (Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California), and there are some amazing things to see on the way. Whether it’s the jaw-dropping  natural beauty of the Grand Canyon or the famous Blue Swallow Motel, these are places which are all on offer to you if you can stop long enough to take a look.

How Long To Stay

As previously mentioned, there is a lot of debate on how long roughly you should spend driving along this famous route. It’s recommended that you should spend at least three to four weeks so that you get the chance to really embrace everything that is there along the way. There are so many different types of cuisines that you are able to sample as well if you are interested in food – the states that you are driving through can give you everything from barbecue to seafood to spicy concoctions. How long you stay depends entirely on your budget, how long you want to spend away from home and how comfortable you are with driving so far! Always take a buddy with you, both to stay on the safe side and to have somebody to talk to and share the experiences with along the way. Once you get off the route and make your way home, you’ll be itching to get back on the long open roads winding you from state to state. Pack light, because you’ll be bringing a lot back with you!
