Online security comes in many shapes and sizes; your company may need to spend time finding exactly what is right for it. For example, a financial institution will need to make sure it meets FFIEC compliance, something that a construction firm won’t have to do. Both need to have online security, but one’s demands are different from the other. With that in mind, you should consider what it is that you’re looking for and in need of. Some businesses will need to find big solutions like investing in virtual networks and full cloud operations, whereas some are better served by in-house antivirus software and assistance from security services. Understanding what is on offer is the only way to make sure you are on the right path.
Virtual Networks
Above we mentioned the use of virtual networks as a means to providing better security to your business. This technology is currently a fast growing one and demand is become higher and higher. There are two types of virtual networks for you to look at, one is a Virtual Private Network (VPN), and the other is a Virtual Private Server (VPS). The former allows the user to connect to the internet via a network other than their own, thus keeping the user’s network private. This is useful for the practice of keeping information secure and allows for sensitive data to be exchanged efficiently and safely.
A VPS, however, is a virtual machine which is operated separate from the main network of the user and is used predominantly for hosting websites and remotely operating software. Both are valuable tools to use depending on your company’s needs, and by now you will have noticed ways in which your company could find a use for a virtual network.

Cloud
Virtual networks and the cloud go hand in hand. Both offer remote access but in slightly different ways. Whereas as VPS is a single server dedicated to your site, cloud hosting allows for a spreading out of resources across multiple virtual machines. Potentially that means you are afforded more flexibility when using a cloud hosting service. However, there are other uses beyond the comparisons with virtual networks.
Cloud software is also available to be used a backup service. You will no doubt be aware of the importance of securing your vital information through different backing up processes, but this option allows you secure documents away remotely meaning that if something were to go wrong with your equipment, you wouldn’t lose valuable data.
Security
Finally, a brief look at ensuring you are practising good security in your business. There are many remote services, as discussed above, as well as companies online offering security assistance. However, you must make sure that you are using up-to-date antivirus software and have a secure firewall in place. These may seem like basic security tips, but it is surprising how many people forget to include them and end up with problems as a result.
Good to know, thanks for sharing. 🙂
