They’re giving you the time and effort, what more do you want from your employees?! Enthusiasm is a very difficult attitude to drum up, and if you need your employees to put on a smiley face and mean it, they need some form of motivation, not just so that they end up saving time in their daily duties, but are also feeling enthused about coming to work every day. Can this actually be achieved?
Deliver On Your Promises
You say that something is going to change, and it has taken 6 months, are you surprised that you see a sea of dour faces? Instead, think about what you want your employees to do, and if they actually have the motivation to do it. Have you delivered on your promises recently, or have you postponed them?
Have Working Technology
It’s not too difficult! Because we might be in the middle of a task that’s taken a few hours to set up, only to find that the screen has frozen, or has been lined up for system downtime, it can make us one to rage at our computer screen. Instead, consider outsourcing to a managed services company that can take care of all of the technical issues during the quiet moments, or on weekends, but also give your employees tools that actually work!
Keep Them In The Know
The bigger picture isn’t just for you to know and for them to find out; it’s a spark, a reason for your employees to do something that they don’t want to do. If you spend your entire business life giving orders without providing the reasons why it’s not surprising that there is a lack of engagement from the perspective of your employees. Motivation and enthusiasm for any sort of project will increase when they know what the outcome is. Keeping them in the know isn’t just about ensuring they understand the bigger picture, but it is common courtesy. You’re treating them like a human for once!
Give Them Those Perks!
It’s not too difficult, if you want your employees to stay with the company, you need to give them what they need. Now, with so many 6-month contracts, maternity cover roles, and the like, we can feel that, as employers, we only have to offer them a permanent contract, and we can keep them forever. But if you’re working at making your employees enthusiastic about the business, giving them that little raise, opportunity to socialize, the chance to work at home or be more flexible, or just a simple “thank you” and a handshake, could be little things that will keep them on your side and enthused.
We’re not psychic, and we don’t know why employees don’t work faster or with more enthusiasm, but what we can do is change their attitudes towards the business by finding the right steps to ensure that they have the ability to do the job well. A sense of enthusiasm is infectious, and it can help to gradually improve the company culture. At the end of the day, it is not about keeping you happy, it’s about keeping them happy, so they can work healthier and happier.
